Acting as the prime design consultant in a Design/Build team, FLLG provided design development and construction documents for the Segundo Services Center. FLLG provided all hardscape design, including two plazas, pedestrian walks, bike parking, and bike trail. The softscape design included a green roof, drainage swales, and a large turf area for the students to gather. The site had the unique challenge of having to be designed to incorporate the existing parking lot, bike trail connection, and four adjacent residence halls. FLLG worked closely with Valley Crest Landscape Development and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. to develop a project that met the needs of the University and the students.

The design incorporates seat walls along pedestrian walks and areas for outdoor café style gathering, all in an attractively designed, water efficient landscape that was planned to encourage student use of the of the outdoor spaces. The project is targeted to be LEED Gold, and landscape LEED credits were targeted and achieved through installation of a green roof, permeable pavers, highly efficient irrigation design, and the extensive use of water conserving and recycled landscape materials.
